Terrytown – On Thursday, April 16, 2020, shortly after 10:00 PM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 428 at Nile Street in West Jefferson Parish. The crash took the life of 26-year-old Eugene Harris of Terrytown.
The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as the decedent was walking eastbound on LA 428 in the right lane near the intersection of Nile Street. At the same time, 35-year-old Tyrone Wallace of Gretna, was traveling eastbound on LA 428 in a 2016 Nissan Altima. For reasons still under investigation, Harris was hit by the Nissan Altima. Harris suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment on Harris’ part is not suspected. Wallace along with other occupants of his vehicle, 2 of which were minors, were not properly restrained during the crash, however none were injured as a result.
Impairment on the part of Wallace is suspected to be a factor. Wallace submitted to a breath test to determine impairment, the results of which were 0.170 g% BAC. Troopers placed him under arrest for: Vehicular Homicide, Unrestrained Child (2 counts), Obstruction of Justice and Operating a Vehicle While Driver’s License is Suspended. As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected for analysis. This is still and active and on-going investigation and no further information is available at this time.
