Zachary – Shortly before 1:30 pm on May 25, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on US Hwy 61 north of LA Hwy 964 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 17-year-old Michael Cammack of St. Francisville.
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Cammack and his two passengers were traveling northbound on US Hwy 61 in a 2016 Dodge Journey. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge ran off the roadway to the left and crossed the median. After crossing the median, the vehicle then struck a bridge guardrail bordering the southbound lanes of travel on US Hwy 61.
Cammack was properly restrained at the time of the crash; however, sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is unknown at this time, but an autopsy and toxicology report will be completed by the coroner’s office. This crash still remains under investigation.
