Monroe – Shortly before 5:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a crash on US Hwy 165 just north of Richwood High School. The crash took the life of a pedestrian who was walking in the travel lane.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed the crash occurred as a 2018 Nissan Rogue, driven by 49-year-old Steven Stockstill of Columbia, was traveling northbound on US Hwy 165. For reasons still under investigation, a pedestrian, 38-year-old Aaron Akins of Monroe was walking in the northbound travel lane of US Hwy 165. Akins, who was wearing dark colored clothes, was struck by the Nissan.
Akins was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Stockstill was not injured in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
